# Write to Havering and Oppose Cancellation of Hanukkah Celebration

Havering council [have said that they won't be putting up the Hanakah candles for fear of vandalism](https://finance.yahoo.com/video/havering-council-wont-light-hanukkah-113121171.html?ref=ourfight.uk).

At a time when London's Jews need more solidarity, not less, please send a message to Havering, that they have got this one wrong.

> Subject: Disapproval of the Cancellation of Hanukkah Celebration

> Dear Cllr Morgon,

> I am writing to express my deep disappointment and strong disapproval regarding the recent decision to cancel the Hanukkah celebration in Havering.

> The reason given for the cancellation was primarily fears of potential vandalism targeting the giant menorah, due to the ongoing conflict in Gaza. While I understand the importance of ensuring public safety and security, I firmly believe that cancelling a celebration that holds immense cultural and religious significance for the Jewish community is not the appropriate response.

> Hanukkah is a joyous festival that symbolises hope, unity, and the triumph of light over darkness. By cancelling this event, the council is giving in to anti-Semitism and to those who seek to divide us and undermine the principles of harmony and coexistence that our society is built upon.

> By displaying the giant menorah the council would be sending a powerful message that it stands firmly against anti-Semitism. It is our duty as a society to protect and celebrate the cultural and religious traditions of all our residents, regardless of their background or beliefs.

> I implore the council to reconsider its decision to cancel the Hanukkah celebration and to stand together in solidarity with Havering’s Jewish community. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to a positive response and a reconsideration of the cancellation decision.
